Can I put 2 passport renewals in the same envelope?

Question: I would like to put my husband's and my own passport in the same envelope. Do they need to be mailed separately?

Answer: No, you do not have to mail the two passport renewal applications separately. However, we do recommend you place each Form DS-82, passport, passport photo and payment for fees in a separate envelope. Then, place those envelopes in a larger envelope to be mailed to the address on the form.

Note, they will not stay together once they arrive at the processing center. Your new passports will be sent separately and, more than likely, will not arrive at the same time.

Finally, the old passports will be cancelled and returned to you. They are sent separately from the new passports and may arrive at a later date.

Question: My passport doesn't expire until early 2025. If I mail my current passport with my renewal application, how do I travel over the next 7 months.

Answer: You cannot travel without your passport. You have two options:

1. You can wait until you return from your trip before applying for renewal OR

2. You can apply for expedited renewal to get your passport in 2-3 weeks. This is done entirely by mail or you can do it online if you are eligible.

Alternatively, you may apply through a registered passport expediter who can get your passport within your required time frame, even as fast as the same day. These companies have a special relationship with passport agencies that helps you bypass the appointment system and the long wait times.

Option 1 is only applicable if your passport still meets the validity requirement of your destination country. Some countries require six months upon entry or exit, some require less.

The more sensible option is to apply for expedited renewal. Depending on your travel plans, you can apply directly to the Department of State or through a third-party courier.

Can I send the applications altogether in the same envelope?

Thank you! for your answer.

Your 20-year-old needs to apply for an adult passport. Most facilities require an appointment. All three kids can share one appointment and both parents need to be present with the 14 and 15-year old.

I have learned that the mail addressed to the PA passport processing center is so backed up it may not arrive there for weeks. What happens if the processing of my passport does not begin within the 15-year requirement to use the DS-82 renewal form?
